Search firms/recruiters/headhunter recs?
Anyone have recs for firms to reach out to?
Forgive the ignorance, but do they typically help place you and then collect a fee from your employer?
Background is in management consulting. In SF but open to relocating.
No specific recommendations, I have worked with one guy, the fee arrangement is that they are paid to act on behalf of the company that retained them. You should never have to pay the headhunter, they are looking out for their client and that isn't you, with that said they are generally worth talking to, but go in with your eyes wide open.
Hey - thanks a lot for the advice.
What's the best way to proactively identify and reach out to recruiters?
Mine came directly to me via linkedin, so I would put some time and effort into that, I've had a few opportunities crop up that way. I would look through linkedin and try and find alums from your school who are headhunters, try and talk to them and get a feel to see if they have any openings that you would be interested in. It's a bit of a dance as they are both selling you to the client and trying to find the best fit for you amongst openings, remember that they add value by identifying good short list worthy candidates, so they will interview you, my interview with the headhunter was analogous to a first round, very conversational and fit oriented, I then interviewed with a senior exec at a MM firm in industry (not IB/PE/VC/Consulting).
