Semi intelligent guy with no idea!! Complete outsider

Hi everyone,

I read, I listen to all the greats, I love the commentary in the AFR, I keep applying(without success) and keep learning. I developed the investment field bug 5-6 years ago and it's something now I can't get away from it. This has been a constant journey and I am still enjoying the journey.

  • I have an accounting background (undergrad degree from a good Australian uni with pretty average grades by my own admission. I was only focused on sport then)
  • I had successes at my first proper job out of uni. I resigned from my role in aviation a couple years back thinking this industry would be interested in my broad skills (I have been wrong so far). I have done a few random/odd unrelated jobs to get by, considered the start-up path and tried to get funding for an idea but ultimately I only want investment - I won't be deterred.
  • I am here for the long-haul. I know I won't regret this period when I am 70yo because it allowed me to join the industry I am passionate about.
  • At this stage I am enrolled in a top 2 Aus MBA. I know this is not something highly regarded in the region, but it might help on this journey with a US exchange. It's also something that I feel is positive for my CV with the long term view.
  • It seems extremely difficult in Aus. I know there are very intelligent people in the field and that I am competing with for roles, but surely there is room for someone like me. I think differently, I'm a team player and I am extremely curious.

For the people on the inside. Any other recommendations?
