Should I double major (Finance & MIS)?
Background info:
Junior at a non-target university
Private equity intern next summer
Planning on investment banking or private equity after graduation
Will take CFA Level I next fall
Dilemma:
I planned on double majoring in Finance and Management Information Systems but encountered problems when I studied abroad last fall as classes didn't count initially. So, I decided to drop to a Finance major with an MIS minor. However, I just received word that the finance/economics courses I took while abroad will count for my finance degree. These classes were terrible; I'm not sure I learned much. For example, we covered linear regression on paper in Japanese economics, and the financial auditing course was taught by someone who couldn't speak much English.
The finance courses I could take next year seem interesting, while the MIS courses do not as much. I want to ensure I graduate with confidence in my finance degree, but I would also like to be as employable as possible. Since the courses counted, I can now graduate with two majors again. Should I take the credit and run? Or would it be better to take the finance courses I planned on taking at my home university and graduate with a minor in MIS?
