Should I get a masters to break into PE

I currently go to Georgetown and major in international political economy and business and minor in classics. I am strongly interested in Private Equity. Georgetown doesn’t have the strong pull to go directly into PE so I was wondering if it would make more sense to take a Fulbright to LSE and get a Masters in finance and private equity?

Based on the most helpful WSO content, getting a master's degree can indeed be a beneficial step towards breaking into Private Equity (PE). It can provide you with a solid foundation in finance and PE, and potentially open up networking opportunities. However, it's not the only path.

From the WSO threads, it's clear that many have broken into PE through different routes. Some have gained experience in investment banking or consulting first, then transitioned into PE. Others have pursued an MBA, often after gaining some work experience.

In the end, it's about having a clear plan and being persistent. As Eisenhower said, "Plans are nothing; planning is everything." So, whether you decide to pursue a master's degree, work first, or go for an MBA, the key is to have a goal and a plan to achieve it.

Remember, it's always fine to change the plan as you go along. The important thing is to keep learning, keep networking, and keep striving towards your goal. Good luck!
