Should I wait until my semester is over to start applying to 2024 IB internships?
Currently at a 3.3 gpa and ive heard a lot about the 3.5 cutoff, should I wait until the end of the semester when I hopefully will be at a 3.5 by then or is it too late to wait until then, I have good resume experience and I am pretty confident in my ability to interview for IB.
No. So many places are putting out applications earlier than last year. Depending on the firms you want to work for you can't afford to wait. Even MM banks are putting out applications right now. If you wait till April/May there will be no offers waiting. Just don't put down your GPA and have a good story of "why". They will ask you about it. However, it's better to be given a chance in an interview than never receiving it at all.
Many banks use applications where you are forced to list your GPA and if it's not above a certain level they won't even consider you.
That being said, apply to the banks, it can't hurt, but for the banks that will likely be interviewing in the summer (Barclays, CVP) hold off for the GPA boost. Make sure to network your ass off with those banks because they might end up being your only shot.
I was in the same spot as you last year during my recruiting cycle. I came from a non target and was able to get my GPA up to above a 3.5 by early May. I would recommend waiting till you get your GPA up because most places wont even look at you unless your above a 3.5. My best recommendation is find banks that start recruiting after May (there are plenty of MM/regional banks and some BB). Keep networking in the mean time and once the semester is over you can use your connections to help you get a first round interview
