What should go into the body of my email? Should I use my cover letter as the body of my email, or should the body of the email just mention that i've attached my resume to the email? This is in regards to cold emailing for potential internships by the way
If it was a cold email to begin with, you probably should have included "cover letter-type" information in the original email.
It seems as though they responded asking for more information (your resume), so I would just give general "here it is" language
The original email was sent through the alumni database at my school, so I tried to keep it as concise and simple as possible.

Yes. Thank him for taking time out of his schedule for a fellow alum and that any advice or assistance he could give will be very much appreciated.
I would also reach out to the alumni office at the school and tell them how helpful having those connections online has been, also mention his name as an alum that has been helpful. I served on an alumni board for my alma mater and it was nice to hear positive feedback about different initiatives and this will put you on their radar as someone that is helpful and supportive.
