Start early and lateral or recruit for better firm?
I’m lucky enough to get a FT offer at TD this late in the cycle (no return from BB) but it has zero exit ops. Im thinking of continuing to recruit for a better opportunity since my main goal is to get PE when recruiting starts next august. The other option is to start in Jan at TD, recruit in June for lateral positions, then recruit for PE in august while hiding the fact that I worked at TD.
What would y’all advise me to do?
Would you rather get a paycheck, or sit at home in your mom's basement?
Just start with TD. It is much easier to lateral than to recruit FT especially in this environment. After laterally you can do either oncycle or offcycle for PE recruiting.
Thanks. Is it possible to lateral after 6 months?
Yes, it is. At my EB, I know of 3 analysts in my group who lateralled around 6 months in from banks much less known than TD (think regional middle markets)
So is it possible to lateral from a non NY/SF city to NY/SF? Completely oblivious to the process so appreciate the info.
Yes. I am in an SF EB, we have people from Atlanta, Charlotte and Chicago in my class who lateralled at 6-12 months in
