Summer 2024 Internship Search Struggles

TLDR: No summer IB or finance internship for 2024, what to do? Feeling defeated from constant recruiting, need perspective.

Hi all,

I wanted to ask you guys for advice, as I'm pretty much at wit's end here:

I'm a junior at a target (HSW), with no internship yet lined up for summer 2024. IB recruiting has come and gone, and I can't seem to get any interviews, with any firms. I had a few first rounds back in April with Moelis, CVP, Lazard, but since then I've networked but gotten no first-round interviews, and the constant state of recruiting is starting to break me.

Am I fucked in terms of breaking into IB or even smaller PE shops? I know there's full-time recruiting but every person I talk to mentions poor hiring conditions etc, and I'm not sure what to do. I know I'm speaking from a very privileged place going to a target school and complaining about not getting an internship, with a whole year still left for internship and full-time after, but I'm just not sure what to do.

If I don't get a decent internship this summer, everyone keeps telling me I'm fucked for full-time cuz there's never any spots (esp with these hiring conditions), and that I'll be overlooked for people with more experience than me (which is ofc totally fair)

If it matters I can give some background; I'm interested in healthcare finance, so I'd love to break into healthcare IB, or even work at small PE shops (goal is to work in healthcare investing one day; idk if that dream is gone now though). I truly do love the world of healthcare finance, and networked decently well and most banks, but probably not enough back in Feb-May when the full process was going on. I tried casing for consulting but my heart is always been set on finance. I have a 3.65 GPA, which isn't ideal, but should be okay to pass through initial screens? I'd say okay resume with some experience in investing/financial services already.

I apologize for the defeatist attitude, just seeing the talented people at my school around me, having completed recruiting, while I grind out recruiting still with no success has just tanked my confidence. I'd appreciate any perspective you guys would have on this.
