Summer Offer Decision - UBS vs Rothschild (Both NYC)
Hi all,
Been a long time lurker but finally made an account because I wanted some advice (and hope to contribute in the future at some point). I've been fortunate enough to receive offers for both UBS and Rothschild for the Summer of 2019. The offers are for their NYC offices and neither are group specific. I'm in the interview process with a few other firms but the decision would likely come down to these two. I really enjoyed speaking with interviewers at both firms and could see myself working with any of them, but don't really know much about how either firm has been doing as of late. Any advice is much appreciated!
Congrats! When were the superdays? Last time I checked UBS didn't even open up their online apps yet, so is this OCR?
i'm at a target and a diversity candidate, neither have interviewed the regular pool of candidates at my school yet
Rothschild, no question.
Personally, Rothschild -- just because their RX is solid and I can't really think of a group in UBS that I'd rather be at. Can't speak to Rothschild on this bit, but I believe UBS has been on the decline (feel free to correct me if I'm wrong). My school also has a tendency to gravitate toward the EBs, so I admit I may be a little biased here.
Already....how.......Congrats nevertheless.
When it comes to choosing one firm over the other, I rank culture as the most important thing. So try to get a feel for that before making your choice. However, if we assume culture is equally good at both firms, then Rothschild 100%.
thanks for the advice all. hoping to get a little more insight because I've gotten a lot of mixed responses. it seems pretty one-sided on WSO but i've had some alumni express concern about rothschild losing a few important MDs.

which one has better exits to PE though? I've heard mixed responses as well, and would love your input.
I would throw a word of caution about Rothschild RX. Both the previous co-heads of the group in the past year. One is at Greenhill now and the other started his own firm.
In the US, UBS is quite strong in asset management roles and their US IB arm is not really notable. Provided that you like the culture of Rothschild, I would lean towards Roth and try to push for whatever group is best at Roth.
also not sure about RX at rothschild now that the co-heads left. heard good things about consumer and industrials there
