If the firm never tells you not to use AI on a take home model test - is it fair to use it? We will obviously have AI on the job so it feels like we should?

I think in today's world most PE firms would assume case studies / modeling tests that are "take home" will mean the majority (if not all) candidates will use AI in some way to help them. Whether that's research to fill in case study memo slides or building out the model.
I'd just make sure if you're using it in a model to double check everything and make sure there's no extra data (especially hardcoded numbers that aren't linked to anything else) anywhere that could be too obvious.
I wouldn't proactively share that you used AI but if they asked I would say you leveraged AI and think its a good skill for PE juniors to have and know how to use
