Taking a year off

I recently accepted a FT IB job in the US, but my elderly parents live abroad. I want to take a year off in a couple of years to be near them and was wondering what the best way was to go about that. If I'm back in my home country not working for a year, will companies look down on that? I also don't have work authorization here, so I'd have to apply from my home country unless I get accepted into an MBA program. Is caring for elderly parents a legitimate reason for MBA deferral?
