Telecommunication Industry

Hey guys I have an interview with the telecommunication department of MM bank in a week and was wondering what kind of questions I can expect: Mainly pertaining to the industry. I come from a different industry background, and am wondering how heavy the questions will be in regards to the actual industry. Please PM or post on here if you can offer some insight. Thanks.

I cannot say for sure what they will ask, but a good starting point:

Be able to speak on the amount of consolidation in the industry. Know recent deals. Many have actually been announced in the past weeks/months.

It would be beneficial to be able to speak on RLECs (rural local exchange carriers) and how access line losses impact their revenue and subsequently their FCF, which is particularly harmful due to the fact that many pursue a high dividend payout strategy.

Be knowledgeable on what is going on with China and its telecommunications industry.

I'm not being a dick here, but I assume you are talking about the Telecoms industry team at the bank, i.e. a sector team?

p.s. - to the guy who posted above me, what does China have to do with anything? If, for instance, it's a MM bank focused on Scandinavia, why would knowledge of Chinese telecoms be of use?

Sigh

To joefish....

As I said in my post, it was a starting point as I do not have enough information on his bank.

The reason I mention China is because there is a significant amount of activity going on/planned in its telecommunications industry that has opened opportunities for investment banks to get involved (i.e. Unicom-Netcom deal).
