The facts about reciting and SAs

Let me preface this by saying that I have have received an offer for a SA position that I am very happy with, so I am not bitter about the recruiting process, just more wise having gone through it.

The facts about the recruiting process:

1) It will drain you physically and emotionally and probably make your course work suffer because you will never actually go to class during the recruiting season.

2) There is no rhyme or reason as to why banks do the things they do. You cannot read anything from the response to your follow-up e-mails, or from what an interviewer says to you at the end of the interview.

3) During the process you are a nothing, a scrub if you will. However, after you get the offer, suddenly you will have MDs and Directors calling you telling you how great the firm is to try to get you to accept the offer.

4) Almost everybody gets the same SA salary at all banks 70K prorated + $2 housing bonus/relocation bonus (Please stop posting forum topics asking about this)

5) At the end of the day, it's all about fit, not about how many financial textbooks you have memorized and can recite perfectly.

6) Sometimes connections help, sometimes they don't. Deal with it.

7) It sucks

8) No matter how bad it gets, you'd still do it a million times over.
