Thoughts of Switching Roles Before Promote
This is mainly for people who either jumped early in their careers or stayed for a promotion—did you regret it, or did it work out?
For context, I have ~1 YOE and I’m currently in a research role at brokerage. I’m happy with my team, and I have a guaranteed promotion to Senior Analyst next year. That said, I’ve been exploring opportunities to move into investments, though I’d also consider Real Estate ER roles.
My main question is whether it’s worth staying for the promotion if I’m planning to switch roles anyway. Does the title bump actually help in making that transition, or is it better to move sooner?
Would appreciate hearing from anyone who’s been in a similar situation.
I’d say move into the investment role sooner than later
Title bump will not help in today's market. You're splitting hairs here. A small junior title bump / 1 YOE is meaningless in the long run. Get the role you want and move on
Also in a research role at a big brokerage. ~1.5 YOE and trying hard to make the switch to the ownership side. Would highly suggest trying to move towards an investment role now. It is much more difficult to do this from research than say an IS analyst or even leasing broker. I'm considering getting an MRED atp. The title bump in research is effectively meaningless for most investment roles and you will be starting at the same level now vs a year from now.
