Tips for breaking into HK IBD?

I'm a freshman at a Canadian target right now and my goal is to secure an IB position somewhere in Asia, preferably HK or JPN after I graduate. I don't know mandarin or cantonese but I'm currently learning japanese right now.

Is there anything you did to differentiate yourself from other applicants in Asia when you applied? Perhaps doing an internship in HK?
