Too late to start networking for Summer 2023 Internship?

Non-target soph with good GPA here. Had one accounting/fp&a internship last summer that I am still continuing.

Never really seriously considered the IB route (always wanted to focus more on econ than anything else) until a couple of months ago. I've had a few sporadic networking calls (maybe one or two a week since the fall) and tend to find it hard because of my introverted personality. The people in my school who were serious about IB however have been networking hard since the summer and probably have sent off dozens of emails every week.

Does it make sense for me to start now? Or am I setting myself up for failure? Would it be smarter to stick to the econ route?

Networking is really not one of my strengths, so it's probably not something that will "come naturally" to me either.

Anyone who was networking in the summer is more than likely wasting their time for Summer 2023 because 1. it's really hard to keep in contact with someone for 7-8 months before the firm's application even opens 2. there is a chance those people won't even be working there next spring as they could leave to the buy-side. I started networking and prepping in December 2019 for Summer 2021. But that is because I didn't care about RBC and a couple of others. RBC opens in September if I remember correctly, so sure if your friends were applying to RBC and were networking it makes sense. But most EBs and UMMs open in February and March. So December/January is a good time to start.
