Toronto to Texas?

Got a visa that will lead to a green card through my current company. Currently in Toronto and can stand the politics and high cost of living. Company is allowing me to work remote from anywhere I want so I am considering moving to Texas and building a family there. Does anyone think Dallas is decent? Nice play to live?

My criteria was warm and low taxes. California was the top of my list in terms of weather but housing is crazy and lots of homeless.

For the ideal combination of weather and taxes, Washington (state not DC) might be a good contender. California-like weather with somewhat Texas-like taxes.

Maybe look into that. COL is probably a bit higher than Dallas rn but given the way companies are expanding into Dallas, it might even out pretty soon. Need to do a bit more research.

Washington State is pretty miserable. You've got Seattle, which is a dumpster fire of drugs, homeless, and permanent foggy dreary weather with no sun. Or you can drive down to Portland in Oregan which is even worse.

As someone who went to college in Texas (lived a while near Dallas as well) and then MFin in Canada. Ideally, I wouldn’t want to end up in either Toronto or Texas.

That aside, Dallas is very cost-friendly (slowly getting expensive due to Californization), but there is nothing much to do.
Like the guy above said, you can drive for 12 hours in TX and still be in TX, haha.

Got plenty of cool guns though and taxes are sweet. I fucking miss those taxes.

If you want a family, it could be a nice and relatively affordable place to live. Just the occasional school shootings though.
