Transitioning from ER Associate at BB with 1 year of experience to IB possible?

Recruiting for 2019 summer and have found myself unqualified for most IB spots, but very qualified for ER. Prospects for a summer IB role are slim, but might be able to get a boutique IB. However, I'm fairly confident I can get a very good ER gig - BB or Evercore. Since I know FT recruiting is basically dead, what is the possibility of transferring from ER associate to an IB analyst role within 1-2 years? I know it's hard without knowing any specifics, but does this happen, and does it happen often? Preferably within the same tier of bank, but I'd be comfortable with a MM. Would I also be limited to coverage groups?
