UK Undergraduate Non Target University. 2.1 Predicted - Breaking In...

Hello all,

I am an undergraduate BA business undergraduate at Plymouth University with a 2:1 predicted grade. I'll be honest and can accept my A-levels aren't the best. I've been trading for over 6 months now successfully to try to boost my finance related knowledge both from a worldview and in Excel.

I have work experience in a variety of different jobs from customer service to graphics, just none finance related.

I'm also currently doing the BIWS Financial modeling course to further extend my financial knowledge.

I've been networking with Alumni and potentially have an informational interview with a director at a BB in April but there are not vast amounts that have gone into investment banking.

Internships seem to decline solely based on my University and A-level results; the same can be said for graduate positions.

Do I really have any chance of breaking into investment banking?

Should I try for non-analyst positions and try to work my way in?

Any genuine advice would be welcomed.

Your location is a problem, as is your uni. That being said, if networking fails, I would apply for an MSc. at a target (something with a management aspect, for example Construction Economics and Management MSc at UCL, something which you should be able to land) delay the start date and paste the name onto your resume. Then start networking/applying again. Remember that right now MScs in the UK get 10k government grant, and usually won't cost more than 15k, so you personally won't have to fork out too much.

Thanks for the response. I will look into that, I was unaware that you could get a grant of that amount. I will be moving to London once my course is finished, just trying to figure the best option to take.
