Recruiting is getting started for FT and I have a questions related to networking and alumni outreach.
I'm trying to get some informational interviews scheduled but am struggling to get my hands on email addresses for people to reach out to. I was contemplating upgrading my LinkedIn account so I would have the ability to message people on LinkedIn I'm not connected with. Is this necessary? Should I just send a connection request and if they accept, message them?
What's a good way to get access to email addresses to reach out?
Use your alumni database. It will have lots of email addresses!
Talk with a career chancellor at your school. They usually have some good industry connections and can connect you with them.
As discussed multiple times before, yes, get linkedin premium to connect with people. There was an elaborate blog post about how to approach this.
I usually try to find their full names on Linkedin and then guess their emails using company format.
I paid for a month and it was a waste. Do what GSB or bust said and just find their last name/e-mail format online and send them an e-mail.
I actually think that Linkedin Prem can be a really good investment. Granted it can be hard to get a response, but it is a great tool and I actually got my current position from a referral on Linkedin. Plus, it's really not that expensive.
$20-$30/month is pretty expensive, but I guess if it lands you a job it is a good investment. Totally depends on the type of situation you're in.
Yeah, it would be in the long run. I actually did what OP just stated, I only subscribed for about 3 mos and now just have a regular account.
Thanks for the input everyone. I'm thinking about upgrading for August-December which will include the bulk of my recruiting. I think I'd get the most bang for my buck during this time frame where I can reach out to target contacts.
I don't think upgrading would be worthwhile for year round. But I think it would be very valuable to use during the recruiting cycle.
