Urgent: Career chat with ibd head.
Hi guys,
I spoke with a high-level executive last year when I was in high school regarding pursuing a career in finance. He told me in the call to get in touch when I am looking for an internship in the future. I emailed this week to inform that I am looking for a summer internship. He has now set up a 15 min career chat. How should I go about the call to make to the most of it?
Thanks!
1st: Most important: Be normal, be yourself, don't stress out. When you start the conversation, he'll ask about college and how things are. Don't be nervous and hop into the conversation because time is short. It's off-putting and awkward if you can't have a normal conversation. Ask about himself, his city, life etc.... This is huge and a game changer. People want to work with people they like
2nd: Prepare your story (3 points) that you qualify you: Job(s), Academics/GPA, Extra-Curricular activities. Obviously you're networking in. But he needs to sell you to the Hiring Managers so sell yourself to him.
3rd: Have prepared: Why you're interested in Finance. Good line is always "I read about the markets daily and there's so much going on. I would really like to be immersed in it and think interning with X firm would be a good start to that goal".
thanks for the reply. Btw how do I overcome the fact that I am a first year, I heard it possible to get an internship but very hard?
