Using datanyze and other marketing tools to network

Hi monkeys,

I'm a student right now at a target, and am looking for a summer analyst position in IBD. Of course I have applied for OCR at my school, but there are still some banks that don't recruit here. In trying to cast a wide net, I am reaching out on linked in to alumni at firms I am interested for a networking effort. Instead of direct messaging on linked in where they might not even check their inbox, is it appropriate to use a tool like datanyze, which analyzes their profile and can find their work email address? That way they will most certainly get my message, but may be wondering why and how I obtained it.
