Weight of length of internship?
This maybe a no brainer but I might as well throw it out there. By the time fall recruiting comes around I'll have completed a 9 month (spring/summer) associate internship at a MM boutique. How much weight does this hold over the typical ~12 week summer internships? TIA

Internship length matter? (June ~ July vs. June ~ August) (Originally Posted: 11/28/2013)
I agreed to an internship that will last until the end of July but in my resume if I list it as June ~ July I AM concerned this will raise red flags. Will interviewers care and ask why it did not last until August?
If I explain to them that they only offered until July, I have a feeling they might view it merely as an excuse...
I list the actual dates to avoid this issue entirely.

I am looking into two possible interns to improve my resume in order to break into the investment/finance industry. My concern is the fact that the Asset Management company's intern is much longer than the Hedge fund's intern.
The position for asset management essentially is a research intern and same for the Hedge fund. These are both local boutiques though the asset management seems to be far more established.
I am trying to get into IB/FAS/ER which one should I put more thoughts into if everything goes well?
From an employer's perspective is it better to have two short interns with different companies or one long intern?

It's not really about length but about the quality of experience. Figure out which place is allowing you to develop the necessary skillset for the positions you want in the future.
All things being equal I would probably take the lengthier internship with the more established firm. It will give you more time to develop your skills and to network while still having a job in case nothing comes along quickly.
