Weird quasi-interview… what to make of it?

I called an alum of my bschool to grab ocoffee today, and she said her colleague would be joining because their team might have upcoming openings. The conversation went a full hour, but they're not in a rush to hire (looking at early Q2). They said we could continue our conversation then.

In fairness, one of them is taking the next 2 months off, but they have an official posting up... did I just get soft nexted, or are they simply kicking tires?

EDIT: this is an investing role in an interest rate-sensitive industry where no deals are getting done currently
