What certifications should I earn to get a search fund internship?

I'm a senior in high school looking to intern at a search fund this summer. I want to break into IB one day. I have taken classes at my community college in accounting, business, etc. I'd like to get some certifications to put on my resume. I was thinking of an Excel certification among other things. What other topics/specifc certs do you recommend?

To strengthen your resume for a search fund internship and set yourself up for a future in investment banking, here are some certifications and skills you should consider:

  1. Excel Certification:

    • Excel is a foundational skill in finance. Certifications like Microsoft Office Specialist: Excel Expert or completing courses on platforms like WSO's Excel Modeling Course can demonstrate your proficiency.
  2. Financial Modeling Certifications:

    • Search funds and IB roles often require financial modeling skills. Consider WSO's Financial Statement Modeling or LBO Modeling Course. These are highly regarded and tailored for finance careers.
  3. Bloomberg Market Concepts (BMC):

    • This certification provides a solid introduction to financial markets and is recognized in the industry.
  4. Investment Foundations Certificate (CFA Institute):

    • This is a great entry-level certification that covers the basics of investment management and financial principles.
  5. Accounting Basics:

    • If you haven't already, consider certifications or courses in accounting fundamentals. Understanding financial statements is crucial for search funds and IB.
  6. PowerPoint for Finance:

    • Search funds often require creating presentations for investors. WSO's PowerPoint for Finance Course can help you master pitchbook and presentation skills.
  7. Python for Data Analysis:

    • While not mandatory, having basic coding skills in Python for data analysis can set you apart, especially if the search fund values data-driven decision-making.
  8. Networking and Behavioral Skills:

    • While not a certification, consider WSO's IB Interview Course to prepare for behavioral and technical questions. This will also help you in future IB interviews.

By focusing on these certifications and skills, you'll not only enhance your resume for a search fund internship but also build a strong foundation for breaking into investment banking later. Good luck!
