What is recruiting out of pre-MBA PE Associate positions like?

Pretty much the title. I'm headed to a UMM/MF after my IB stint, but I don't want to get an MBA and would rather look to transition to HF or senior PE roles (assuming recruiting out if no direct promote). What does that recruitment process look like?
