What to make of this - Any experience in these types of situations?
Hey guys,
So i have a situation here that i'm not too sure of how I should go about this. I contacted an alum and he responded and wanted to meet for coffee. The meeting place is his office, and i am not too sure how I should treat this. Clearly this is an information session but I guess my ultimate question is how should I dress for the occasion. Is khakis and a button up reasonable or should i go in with a suit? Anyone else been through these types of situations?
thanks for any help.
I don't think it would cause any problems if you went business casual, but it can't hurt to be safe and just wear a suit. You can always just take the suit jacket off. Considering it is in his office I would rather err on the side of being too formal.
wear a suit dude, without a tie.
I've met alum at their office before, and rather than guessing what to wear, just asked him. He told me to wear a suit. After our conversation he took me around the office introducing me to different people in different groups, and I was definitely glad I dressed up.
Just ask. Send an email that says something like "Todd (I assume his name is Todd), I'm looking forward to our meeting. What's the dress code in the office so I can dress appropriately? Thanks."
^^^Good advice. If you're uncomfortable asking, just play it safe and wear a suit.
you can never go wrong with a suit. if he expects you to wear one and you come in casual, you'll look bad.
