When do students apply for internships for summer analyst positions?

I have secured a Summer 2023 Internship to a well-known bank this summer in NYC at my dream desk within IB. I’m very excited, but worried that I might not get a return offer from them for the following summer as a Summer Analyst, which is then a pipeline into their full-time Analyst position. I understand that is how most other banks work too. I know that applications have already opened for summer analyst positions and I should apply soon, but shouldn’t I also wait until I’ve had the experience at my internship this summer to be able to list it and discuss it on my resume and cover letters? I don’t want to be too late in applying (I honestly got really lucky even getting the internship I did because I applied so much later than I should have) but I don’t want to apply until I have this internship (or at least part of it) under my belt. Obviously I’m just hoping for a return offer from the bank I’m already working at because it’s what I’ve always wanted to work in, but I need to make sure I apply for other ones as well, just in case. Please let me know what you’d recommend!
