I would follow up weekly. Make them give an answer versus letting them make you sit in suspense.
Trust me I want to do that. My fear is that, that would piss them off/ be annoying.
It's not annoying. Your time is valuable as is theirs. What benefit is there for them to sit and him and haw? Call them, not email, and say; "Look, I interviewed x weeks ago, I am interested in the role and would be delighted to get started. What more can I share in order for a decision to be rendered?" Or, if you really got stones, "Look, I interviewed x weeks ago, I'm interested in the role and have not heard anything since. I do have another offer pending and wish to know where we stand before I make a decision."
