When to give up on getting a job offer following final interview.....
I had final interviews with 3x MD's last week on Wednesday and I still haven't had an offer, but I haven't heard that I have been rejected either. HR said this last Wednesday (one week later) that the team was discussing 'shortly'.
Am I being flipped or is there a genuine chance that an offer might be incoming? Does anyone have any experience with this?
The role is in institutional sales for a BB firm and it's an 'off-cycle' Associate hire (few applicants, not a formal programme).
Have you emailed them asking for a timeline or an update or anything or are you just playing the waiting game?
You still have a chance. For experienced hires, the process can be quite long and drawn out (as you may know) and they won't be trying to turn around with an answer in a day or two as they do with formal recruiting processes. They may just be really busy. May even be likely you're on a waitlist in which case hopefully others say no, but in this type of scenario I think no news is not bad news.
Thanks for your comments guys.
Skinnayyy- I spoke to an HR person on Weds and they said that they would have news for me 'within' the next couple of days. So I assume I need to hear something today.
notthehospitalER- I have been leaning towards what you are saying because of the difficulty of getting various VP's, MD's etc into the same room to discuss a new hire, but I think I needed someone else to support that view!
It is torture waiting. Hate it.
Ok yeah when reading I wasn't sure what wednesday you were talking about for each one that you said so I got a little confused. I wasn't sure if you talked to HR last wednesday or this Wednesday. I wouldn't even imagine you getting a response back today, just because it's a Friday. Probably next Tuesday you'll get a response.
We need to start WSO offer pools for things like that this so we can all bid on what days we think people will get call backs!
So I guess today is the day Skinnayyy! I am going to give HR a polite call later if I don't hear anything. Or is that a bad idea?
If you don't hear anything back today, I'd give them a call tomorrow morning. A week to do something that they said would only take a couple of days warrants a call. Or an email at the least.
