Where to go? choose offers

I am lucky and recently got two offers.

One is in a local logistics and REIT (self-storage) company as a business intelligence analyst, public traded company, but middle size firm, about 1000 employee...Growing fast in the recent two years. It is a local job, no relocation necessary.

Another one is a credit risk analyst position with GE Capital, pay about 16% higher than the position above, but relocation ( to a city with slightly higher cost of living) is needed, . NO relocation assistance at all. The relocation will be very costly, I need to sell or rent my small townhouse, my wife has to relocate with me and lose her job which she likes.

It seems like I should just take the local job, but I am more interested in risk management in finance and working at GE Capital sounds like more promising for my career growth. In addition, I am preparing the CFA exams, I think the designation is more useful for my career in credit risk analysis. I also plan to pursue a MBA in the near future and I guess (just guess) GE Capital may be more financially feasible to provide me tuition assistance.

Any comments and suggestions are highly appreciated!

Congrats. I go for GE. It is an excellent opportunity with a prestigious company plus better pay. Plus it seems to fit in with your CFA plans and the name recognition would help to get a top MBA.

It seems like you don't want to relocate but it is better to do so early in your career than later. If you are concern about your wife, you two need to have an honest conversation about her feeling. You don't want her to resent you over moving. This would be the deciding factor given everything else.

Some of my friends in similar situations (house and job) decided to live apart for 6-12 month. This let the spouse that did not relocate -normally the wife- start looking for a new job in the new city while working on selling the house.

OKAY, thank you guys. I think you are right. I was hesitating because I feel uncomfortable to have no relocation package from GE Capital. It doesn't seems like a generous company in a way...several years ago, my first job right after college got a good relocation package...

Good offer. Always tricky when you have to consider your wife's career.
