Where to go from here?

I am a frequent Blind user (teamblind dot com) and recently found out about how much SWE at hedge funds make (up to 350k out of undergrad!). I am currently working towards getting into SWE/ML at FAANG but I am interested in positions in the finance industry that may be high-paying/fitting as well.

Background:1 yoe in Data Science/Machine Learning and currently work as a Machine Learning Engineer for Anti-money laundering/fraud applications (Non-tech company). I have a Bachelors degree in chemical engineering (Univ of Texas at Austin). Currently doing OMSCS at Georgia Tech.

I am studying to get into FAANG because they pay well, but are there areas in finance (hedge funds, IB, PE, trading, asset management, etc...) that may be good to consider if I am simply interested in the highest paying jobs? I am totally unfamiliar with the finance industry.

This question is really 2-folds:

1) What are areas in the intersection between finance/SWE/ML that would be good to consider that are really high-paying - and better than FAANG even? Although, it can be a pure SWE or a pure ML role I guess - doesn't have to be both.

2) To be "good to consider", I personally don't want to go back to school (don't want to leave my job) - unless it's online. I'd rather self-study to get in if possible.
