Which career path to shoot towards after internship?
Hi WSO.
I'm a junior finance major at a (mostly) non-target, ranked around 35-40. We see companies sporadically recruiting on campus for IB, ER, and S&T roles, but they're usually lower MM (Stifel), or just looking for one or two interns (BAML ER, Citi S&T).
I've accepted an internship offer in NYC for this upcoming summer with a wealth management office, based in their corporate office doing Business Development. Though I'm not entirely clear on what to expect, the internship sounds like I'll be focusing on strategy and corporate development to expand and grow the scope of the firm. It's a company very similar to Ayco (Goldman Sachs' PWM subsidiary) with 80-100+ offices spread across the country.
Last summer, I interned at a small private equity firm in Singapore, focused on investing in financial technology companies. There, I did general market research, created "pitch books," and lightly touched DCF/other analysis.
I'm interested in transactional work, or something related to work with public equity markets. My question is, where do I go from here? Am I pigeon-holing myself in the wrong industry if I continue onward with this internship?
