Which role is best suited for me?
Hi guys, this is my first post so a bit of background detail. I'm starting university (undergrad) in October in the UK. I've been given an offer for straight economics at a supposedly target uni. I'm looking to get some work experience sessions over the summer but think it would really help if I had an idea of what sort of graduate position I would be applying for in a few years. I like the sound of trading, but not sure I would enjoy being sat infront of a computer the whole time. Have also heard stories of good traders just having a bad year but being fired none the less. I think I would like a bit more job security than that.
So, I want to be able to research different markets/companies, use knowledge of current events in these areas (political instability/level of development) and act on them. I want to be able to propose to invest and specialise in investing in different areas. Preferably I won't be doing the same thing everyday, but that's slightly secondary to me. I want to use my knowledge of global events and not get stuck in a bubble of short/long, sell/buy, this is very important to me. I want to be in a job that allows me to progress through a business, without being subjected to a slow death of powerpoint presentations and Excel spreadsheets. And I want to earn plenty of dollar.
This is all probably very unspecific, but if these ideas fit a particular job description please tell me. I'm not scared by how competitive it may be, I just want a tangible goal to aim for, as opposed to my current situation which is far too vague.
Many thanks.
Have you tried the GS find your fit test? That helped me...
So, basically, you want a very interesting job that pays very well with a high degree of job security? Good luck.
Also, I wouldn't be touting your 'knowledge of global events' as someone who hasn't even started college yet. That will go over like a lead balloon with employers.

Sorry, still getting used to using this. It wasn't letting me post at first because I was new and they needed to be sure I wasn't a bad monkey or something...
Yes, I tried the Goldman Sachs online test. It said legal (which I don't really like the sound of), or investment banking. However, it then went on to say that the investment banking division started of as analysts. This confused me! I thought analysts were a completely different job altogether? And one which was more middle office, maybe?
