Who pays for a coffee chat?
1st year b-school student at University of Michigan. I understand the importance of networking and aim at meeting a bunch of folk from the investment banking industry. But again I m a student, on a very tight budget. I would be meeting many from the industry for 1-1 coffee chats. What are some of the ideal places to take industry folk for coffee chats and how should my approach be towards paying? If the response is that I should be paying, it certainly will blow a hole through my pocket.Need your advise on how the coffee chats should be done, where should they be done and the approach towards conversing and paying for the coffee/snack/lunch???
If you can't figure out who pays for coffee, you should reconsider most of the career paths Ross will open for you. You're smart enough to figure it out on your own
I don’t know about that broken logic lol I had the same noob question when I was first doing coffee chats years ago. Seems like this good chap is going even further than me and factoring potential cost into his budget. I like it
Banker always pay. Have also seen 2nd years with signed offers (not just IB) pay for 1st years coffee.
I likely will do the same as a 2nd year/FTE after graduation.
don't get anything
Always get water. If you really want, offer to pay but most folks don’t care tbh
