"Why don't you want to go to law school," Interview Question

The short answer is because it is too risky (See the post by @"M Friedman" below). Is this a good answer?

Law vs ibanking

1) You have to go to school for 3 more years 2) You give up (130k+140k+150K)= 420K income minimum 3) You PAY 150k minimum in tuition 4) Your salary out of law school is the same as an analyst in banking, but with less progression 5) Believe it or not, the job market is worse in law than i-banking 6) No clearly defined path or guaranteed exit opps for people in BigLaw 7) More cases of people switching from Law > Finance than vice-versa

I know that. I am just asking how to explain it in an interview.

After my freshman year I did research for a partner at a law firm and knew right away law wasn't for me. The people were all miserable and counting down the seconds till the weekend. Why would anyone want to have a job like that? I may be alone but I want to enjoy what I do.

I'm assuming his resume or transcript has "Pre-Law" written all over it? Easy answer to the question is to shift focus to why you want to pursue whatever the job you're interviewing for is. "As much as I like the law, I discovered x, became interested in y as a result, and want to work in this industry in order to do z as your company is probably the most innovative..." then point out things it's working on that you want to participate in and have the skills to do...if you can make a case that your legal education helped sharpen those skills even better.

That sounds like a good answer. Also, what if I said that the standards of the legal industry are set by precedent; while the standards of industry xyz are set by innovation?
