Why Minneapolis (For IB)

Have an interview for FT with a Minneapolis bank. I'm not from Minneapolis, nor have I ever been. What are some good things to like about Minneapolis that I can say in an interview?

Yeah so you'll stand pretty much no chance against people that actually grew up / live in Minneapolis while sounding like a tourist with no real connection to the city. Really tough place to be because sometimes people will feel overly protective / insecure of their non-NYC city and will place emphasis on what your answer is.

The only answer that actually works is just saying you've been there a few times / have family there because realistically no other answer will be enough, especially if you haven't even been there before. I know lying can be an uncomfortable and immoral thing to do, but you don't want to lose this opportunity because of a silly question like "Why non-NYC city".

Ok bro didn't wanna let me put him on so I'll just spray it to the thread.

Regardless of whether it's Laz, Piper, BMO, or HW (idk if the F&B team got killed or not), the answer is going to be for the most part the same.

People weren't born yesterday, especially bankers. We know why you 'want' this role in Minneapolis - you need a job. You don't need to hoodwink them that you're committed to Lake Days and the Vikes for the rest of your life, but it's deflating to see everyone lateral after two years without even giving it a chance.

So, for the answer. This is a regional place that has regional-specific coverage. Your answer needs to have that in it. Something along the lines of, "Mpls offers unparalleled coverage to several major Food & Bev/Healthcare players." (obviously cater it toward the group you're interviewing with. Biz Services at Laz is goated, too)

Show you're actually excited to be here; as a MN for-lifer, it gets old hearing how shitty the crime is, how cold the weather is (as much as both of those are true), and how you can't wait to be back in wherever you won the geographical genetic lottery (fuck you).

If you actually could see yourself living here long-term and/or you are a good liar, say that you like the long-term options with the suburbia surrounding-area and that you could see yourself raising a family here
