Would I be considered a job hopper?
If I spend 9 months in my first job out of my college, and I spend a year in a 12-month-long investment banking analyst program at a second company before i move to a third company, would I be viewed as a job hopper and would this negatively impact my career down the line?
Or if a significantly better offer comes along while I am completing the 12-month-long analyst program and I accept it, would my career be negatively impacted down the line because then I would have spent less than a year at both my first and second jobs?
This is not to say that I don’t have good reasons to explain these moves. I would have my own reasons to justify these moves. It’s just that I am concerned about how this would look to future potential employers when they see my resume.
Yes
But why not jump at this opportunity while it presents myself? Is loyalty really that important?
I didn’t say you shouldn’t. I just answered your question. Do what’s best for you.
If you do make the jump, be prepared to stay at the new place for a long time. That will allow you to reset your story.
You mean stay at the third company for a long time?
Yeah, a few years to show that you can keep a job.
