2.7 GPA at Semi-Target School: how to fix?
A little bit of background first. I applied to, and got accepted into actuarial science at NYU Stern. My freshman year, I ended with a 2.4 because I partied too much. During my first semester of sophomore year, I found an internship at a fund raising place for hedge funds, and after working 3 months there, I decided to switch majors to finance, and give banking a shot. Only after I discovered WallStreetOasis, that I realized I would need a much, MUCH higher GPA to break into any front office role.
What should I do, monkeys? I know there are summer courses I can take, and I have a summer internship set up at a fairly large Chinese bank in Hong Kong. Am I completely done in for any sort of Junior Year recruiting SA interviews/offers, and any possible future FT at BB/MM banks?
You'll probably need to know someone on the inside that will vouch for you / push your resume along, so that you can get interviews.
I go to NYU, and I'm not in Stern I'm a MEIS major, but for traditional recruiting, unless you can pull your GPA up to a 3.5 then I think you'll have a tough(er) time. I think your internships are solid though, just work hard and keep networking man good luck
Work your ass off, in everything (networking, school, self-study.) This sounds cliche and obvious but if you want it bad enough you'll find a way.
3.0 from Stern, and you should be fine if you network which isn't difficult in NYC.

Transfer to another school.
I would have little to no chance of transferring with such a shitty GPA at the moment.

Im in the same with a 2.7 at CSUS. If you want to follow a plan similar to mine, do more things that are outside of college. I found a way to get 3 state licenses (life, series 6, series 63), I've networked with good people in good positions (CFO, lawyers, bosses), and I'm studying on how to study better for school (literally spending a few hours on this idea with books and articles). Have impressive hobbies or traits that can interest your potential boss (its worked well for me when we drifted into casual conversation, I used to valet for a restaraunt he loved, and I used paintball to keep him interested). I'm applying for a bank job as a teller, while employed by a insurance company (which will hopefully boost my resume). Read good authors and mentors in your field, accelerate your personal development as an individual (accelerate your maturity). Improve your voice, take vocal lessons. Learn to play golf well. Youtube as many mentors and masters you can in your field of study. Read good authors like dale carnegie, napolean hill, and robert greene. All these inches will add up to miles to help you one day.
