A long and winding road, but so glad I'm here

Good morning WSO!

As the topic says, I've been on an interesting career path to say the least and joined here to learn and seek guidance on moving into a different career that is high energy, will allow me to make money, is based more around finance where I can use my strengths.

I'm not going to say I'm behind the curve in terms of career path, but I've definitely taken a different road than most.

I'm 36 years old and live in Houston, TX.

Math, science, logic, etc. have always been my strengths, but in college I used those skills to work towards another passion (Kiniseology) to apply them in the fitness world. I worked as a Strength & Conditioning coach before moving into medical sales, and then opened my own gym which I ran for 7 years, made profitable, and sold back in 2016. Turns out the two things I enjoyed doing the most was figuring out the science and analytics to improve the athletes (junior high --> professional) that I worked with, and learning all about finances to maximize profit and improve my gym's bottom line.

After selling my business, I became a commercial insurance broker for the last 2.5 years and truly enjoy the risk portion of it. Analyzing financials, cash flow, loss reserves, cost of risk spend, coverage gaps, etc. but am not the biggest fan of the sales side of things.

I've supported my family for the last 7 years while my wife was a stay-at-home mom, but now that our kids are older she has gone back to work. This has allowed me the opportunity to take a pay cut if needed, and figure out exactly what I want to do, where my strengths are, and the types of careers that I would excel in for the next 25-30 years.

The more I research, the more I want to move into scheduling and eventually commodity trading (especially living in Houston).

Unfortunately my resume doesn't fit most job descriptions, so I'm thinking of going the Risk Management route (or at least obtaining a RM certification) to hopefully allow me to get a foot in the door somewhere and display my talents.

I'm going to cross post most of this information in the job search forum asking for help and direction, but I felt an introduction was warranted before that.

I'm so glad to be here and really looking forward to learning and moving into some type of "finance" career for the long haul!
