High school Junior looking for help choosing a school
Hi,
As my title states, I'm a junior in high school. This summer I will begin sending out applications to colleges. Interestingly enough, I have no real desire to work on Wall St, even though my uncle works there as a trader. Instead, I would like to pursue an IB job in Texas. Specifcally, Houston or Dallas. I have a seperate post that goes a little further into why I'm looking to work in Texas and therefore am focused on Texas schools. While I have found lots of information on here regarding The University of Texas, I have found little for Texas A&M. If anyone here has any information on A&M (IB placement in Texas, which banks recruit there, programs to join, etc) please let me know! Thanks so much. I look forward to contributing what I can and learning from the more experienced members here.
I have two friends who went to Rice and are now associates for IB's in Houston. A different friend went to University of Illinois and is also in Houston as an IB associate. I can't comment on Texas or Texas A&M though.
A&M placed very well in Houston IB for summer analyst spots this year, and it sounds like that trend is expected to continue. Another user, username GrandJury, can probably give a lot more color on this, and I'm pretty sure he's written a detailed response before.
From my experience, if you want to do Houston IBD then it's definitely better to go to school in Texas. The further away you go to school, the harder it will be to come back.
Not sure if you've seen it, but this thread would definitely be of interest to you.

Howdy! I was in your spot just a couple of years ago. I got in at McCombs (UT) and I am now at A&M business school. I cannot recommend it enough. The professors here are very accessible and there are very good programs that are really starting to develop. PM me if you want more info.
Baylor's a good school to look into if you're going to Texas. Just a thought/suggestion, as you didn't mention it in your post.
Well no matter what happens, you'll have a great time down here in Texas. Whether you're in Austin at UT (better college lifestyle IMO versus backwoods Cstat) or A&M and end up in Houston or Dallas, all is good down here.
