Hopefully a polite introduction
Hi All,
I'm currently a junior at an SEC school and looking to break into Investment banking some how some day. To walk you through a little more about myself, I am studying abroad at a top financial school in Spain where I take valuation and modeling classes in Spanish (not my native language). I am still on the internship hunt for this summer after months and hundreds of emails, hundreds of applications, phone calls, and leveraging every bit of my network.
On a more personal level, I'm an outdoor enthusiast who loves to spend time climbing, mountain biking, kayaking, rafting, running, or horseback riding. I enjoy meeting new people and have been known to start strong friendships only minutes after meeting someone.
I am interested in advice and networking with members. Likewise, if anyone has any questions that I could answer in terms of networking from abroad, finance in another language, or any cultural questions from my Southern or Spanish experience I'd be happy to answer them.
My recent info is that I have a competitive GPA (3.9), understand my financial and IB basics, taken a financial modeling seminar, heavily involved with volunteer work at school, but I'm having a ton of difficulty getting any intern offers. My drawbacks are that I have no formal financial experience and I'm abroad (thus can't interview domestically in person). I've applied to bulge brackets, middle markets, boutiques across the US, Europe, and a little in Asia and Africa. My lone bit of luck is that I've been offered a short-term training at a Currency Exchange group in London. Any advice to getting some experience at this point?
Cheers,
Snowpeople
