Introduction + Equity Trade Support At Hedge Fund Question
Hey everyone,
Been following the site for a while now and have really appreciated all the posts and the content which is available to someone like me trying to excel and succeed in such a competitive industry.
I'm about to enter my senior year at a nontarget in NJ and have held two internships already (neither of which were too Finance related) and have just started my third at a pretty successful hedge fund with a little less than $20 billion AUM. I've been learning a lot, but unfortunately my spirits have been brought down due to some of the posts on this site. The internship is under Operations - Equity Trade Support, and from what I can tell it is a BO/MO position (whatever you want to call it), which is pretty upsetting for me although I do love it here.
I wanted to know that since this is my junior internship, what are my chances of landing a full time Analyst position next year (not just at this hedge fund, but any BB, etc.) Is there anything I can do to kind of enhance my chances throughout this internship, etc.?
Thanks for all the help.
securing a return offer is the first and foremost important thing, you want to try and avoid having to answer the "why didnt you get an offer" question during interviews (assuming the hedge fund gives out return offers). Otherwise learn as much as you possibly can about everything you come into contact with, that way when you get an interview for FT somewhere you will be prepared and can speak somewhat intelligently. when you get the chance to talk to the traders/PMs ask intelligent questions and network with them/through them. reach out to alums/ other people you have talked to on the street and ask to get drinks after work and get the ball rolling with them for FT recruiting
Well, I wanted to know if trying to secure a FT offer at this hedge fund (which I definitely do like) would be worth it if it's in Operations/Equity Trade Support? I mean obviously I'm still going to work as hard as possible and leave a great impression, but I wanted to know what else can I do?
