Junior in college eager to learn!!

Hi everyone,

I'm a junior at a non-target (at least I think it is) majoring in Finance and Economics. Upon discovering this site I have grown a strong interest in financial services and I am looking forward to learning as much as I can. I have always had an interest in learning about companies, industries, and technology. I find the financial services industry alluring because of the intelligence, diligence and ambition of the people whom I see posting on this website. I am not sure which part of the financial services fits me best but IB, S&T and VC seem to fit my interests best.

I have a 3.0 GPA through two years at college and I have had two internships in Sales & Marketing at a dental insurance firm. The experience I've gained from working there this summer and the past summer has been great and I am grateful for the high level of responsibility they give me for my work.

My goal for next summer is to have an internship in financial services . I do not know as much as some people my age but I keep myself updated on what is going in the market by reading Bloomberg, the Economist, Dealbook, WSJ and SeekingAlpha.

I am looking forward to meeting more people on this site and learning as much as I can!!

Hey man just change your username so that it's not your real name. You still want some sort of anonymity here

Thanks for the tip. I went ahead and changed it. :)

Agreed with the above user. Not to be creepy, but I found your LinkedIn within a minute of this post. Definitely change the username, just email one of the WSO admins.

You can change your username by scrolling down a bit to the bottom of a thread. Right under "Post new comment", you should see the option to change your username as a link next to your current name.

Welcome to WSO

Welcome,

Best way to get involved and find your niche would be to start at your university. Does your business school have any clubs, organization, groups, etc. that revolve around finance? If so, join them. This is how I found my career path. It is also a great way to network with other students, alumni, and financial professionals.

Judging by your stated interests, you might want to look into research roles (if you truly do enjoy learning about companies and industries).

Other than that, keep on keeping on. Work hard in school, network network network, and land an internship as soon as school starts back up in the fall (while other students are putting it off until the spring!)
