Michigan Ross
I already asked a college question, so sorry about sounding like a College Confidential tool. It just seems like most of the (lack of a better word) geeks on there have no clue when it comes to financial job placement. Anyways, got into University of Michigan. Unlikely that I'll get direct admission to Ross, so that means applying after freshman year. In the event I don't get into Ross, how bad would it be? From that point, I'd be an econ major. In short, do non-Ross graduates place well in IB and consulting, or is Ross the only way to go?
Non-Ross kids have a pretty tough time getting I-banking jobs, not because they aren't smart and experienced, but because banks don't have the spots beyond the Ross kids.
You should be able to get into Ross if you were smart enough to get into Michigan.
Makes sense. Thanks for the info and optimism.
For IBD, you want to be in Ross. For market oriented roles (S&T, market making/prop, Asset Management, hedge funds), I think Ross gives you a better hit rate, but COE gives you a higher ceiling. For M/B/B level consulting, Ross/COE are pretty even.
LSA is horrible for recruiting and also doesn't offer you a skill set that certain employers target (for instance the market makers/prop solely recruit COE), so avoid like a plague.
Great info, thanks. LSA is where an econ major would end up, so it seems Ross or bust if I end up heading to Ann Arbor.
