New, advice needed

Hi,
I am currently a sophomore at Southern Methodist University based in Dallas. I came here hoping to get into the Cox School of Business but that most likely won't happen. That in addition to a decrease in scholarship amount has led me thinking about transferring to the University of Texas at Dallas (where I am already accepted into the finance program). If I were to stay at SMU, then I would pursue an economics major with financial applications minor in addition to paying close to 50k a year. Being that both these schools are non-targets, would getting a degree from SMU (not from Cox) be worth more than getting a degree in Finance/management from UTD?
I am conflicted with this right now because all my friends say that "SMU will hook you up" etc. but I don't see the merit in spending 50k for an economics degree.
Insight is greatly appreciated.

SMU is a much bigger name nationally. It all depends on what you want to do after school. If you think you can get to the job you want from a less expensive institution, then it might make sense to transfer. SMU may open more doors though, which could lead to a higher profile entry level job.
