New to the Industry

Hello Everyone,

2012 College Grad. I am relatively new to the industry. Quit my job about a year ago (not finance related) which I got right out of college, to get into a trading job. I got trained/traded prop for a year and learned a ton. While there I got licensed (series 56) and got some real hands on exposure to the markets. I traded equities utilizing short term, intra-day strategies. Didn't make any money but only traded live for about 8 months. All in all I got exposure to technical analysis and a little fundamental analysis. I would have liked to get exposure to some longer term strategies like macro, and merger carb. Left the firm on good terms, since I was asked to put money down, the opportunity cost wasn't there for me.

While I did have the typical rookie start to a tough industry, I don't think 8 months is enough time to know if trading is for me or not. Since leaving I have traded from home (month and a half). Just landed a job at Mizuho Securities which is back office working with front. My thought is I can work hard and move to other things relatively quickly. I heard the traders there sometimes have their own book they can also trade. Feel like I'm just another young guy trying to work hard and make shit happen. Hope I can meet cool people to network with and share experiences with.

Cheers y'all.
