Fair enough :-)
I really want to find a position in investment banking : M&A or corporate finance
Apparently, M&A is a bit dead in london at the moment so I think I have more chance to enter in corporate finance.
One question come to my mind now : When I say "I want to work in IB" people will say : IB is very huge, ect, where do you want to work more precisely, ect
If I say "in corporate finance" is it right ? Does "corporate finance" is a division of investment banking ? I am talking of the department where we help companies to raise money, do IPO, ect
In Goldman Sachs, I think they call this division "Financing". Does "Financing division" is the same than a corporate finance division ?
I come here because I am a bit new in the finance
I am doing an MBA but I have still a lot to learn
My MBA will be finish is some 2 months so I am starting to apply now in Entry level position or intenrship
My MBA is from a british university but this is not a top university so this is why I m bit worry
Thanks for your help
Nico
Am I right if I say they are 4 mains divisions in IB :
1) Sales and trading 2) Equity research 3) corporate finance (or Financing) 4) M&A
all this represent the "front office" right ?
thanks !
At GS you will find these front office division, most other banks are very similar 1. Investment Banking Division which includes capital markets IBD
2. Sales and trading which also includes Prime Brokerage SECURITIES 3. Investment Management - Asset Management and PWM IMD 4. Global Investment Research GIR 5. Merchant Banking MER
Other Banks like MS, Citi, BAML have their IBD separated from their Capital markets groups.
Just do some research. If your MBA is not from a top school it will be hard to get into any of these groups specially GS, but you can always try the big 4 accounting firms or middle office posistions like Finance, Controllers etc at a large bank.
Good luck
Yes I am not naive, I m applying to small firms, big 4 yes and also consulting firms for the moment.
Thanks for you answer anyway.
But I have been talking to some guys from GS on linkedin and they said to me that I have a chance to enter on GS but yes I think it was just for be polite or let me dream
Well thanks for the welcome, it is some weeks I am reading occasionnaly WSO and now I will participate and try to read more
