Where to go from here - 19 year old sophmore in college
Hey guys,
I have been skimming through this site for quite some time and finally decided to make an account. The amount of useful and worth while information here is really astonishing. I am a 19 year old sophomore in college. I am currently attending a community college in my area but got accepted to and will be attending Baruch next semester. The reason I am going to a community college at the moment is because I decided to go to West Virginia University and really didn't like the quality of education there among many other things. Now that I am back in New York I want to get the ball rolling. I have a ~3.5 GPA but no real experience in the banking industry. I was just curious about potential PWM internships (unpaid obviously) that I can do this summer. I really do not want to work at a job that is not in my desired industry because I feel that it won't be productive. I want to break into the banking world this summer. I have friends/family friends who could help me out but this is something that I want to do on my own. If it comes to it I am not too proud to ask for a favor but I would really enjoy the experience of applying for programs and interviewing for positions. I guess to summarize this rant I want to know how to get the ball rolling for PWM internships. I would really appreciate your responses and sentiments on my situation.

Maybe I thought this was assumed but I have a genuine interest in this field. I am not sure exactly which field yet b/c I am not familiar enough to distinguish the minor details of each, although I do know the fundamental differences. That being said and from what I know, I am interested in IB and am completely up for the challenge of getting there. I enjoy my school work that pertains to finance and even business in general. I would love nothing more than to get actual experience outside of the class room. Any advice would be appreciated.
You should network, check your school's alumni database, ask professors (usually they have contacts), anddon't be opposed to using your contacts to get a foot in the door. All that matter is what you do with the opportunity once you get it. Also, check for internships at PWM firms, and I'm pretty sure you can get something paid. Good luck!
