I would really give Long Island City a good look. Much more bang for your buck, safe, young professionals (late 20s, early 30s) up and coming, cleaner, newer, more space.... ~1 stop train commute to Midtown.
As a single guy, Manhattan is probably your best bet at meeting chicks. You have to consider this when moving to Jersey.
Wow that is the best neighborhood ever! My favorite place by far. Exceptional all around. And definitely the place with a lot of good bars and restaurants. Superb.
